The Ridges
The elevated enclave at the western edge of Summerlin — desert-modern architecture, long valley-and-Strip views, and the address most associated with new ultra-luxury construction in Las Vegas.
What it is
The Ridges is a master-planned, largely guard-gated luxury community within Summerlin, the Howard Hughes-developed master plan on the western rim of the Las Vegas valley. It sits at elevation against the Red Rock escarpment, which gives much of the community its defining feature: open views east across the valley and toward the Strip. Architecturally it skews contemporary desert-modern — clean lines, low-slung massing, stone-and-glass facades, and disappearing indoor-outdoor edges — a deliberate contrast with the Mediterranean and Tuscan vocabularies common elsewhere in Summerlin. The community is generally organized into a series of distinct guard-gated villages, several of which were built out by custom and semi-custom homebuilders over the past two decades.

Architecture and views
Elevation is the through-line. Because the land steps up toward Red Rock, many homesites are positioned to capture long eastward sightlines over the valley floor, with the Strip skyline visible at distance and, in places, the escarpment rising to the west. That orientation tends to shape the architecture as much as taste does: broad glazing, deep overhangs for desert shade, and floor plans that push primary living spaces toward the view. Buyers should keep in mind that view quality, lot grade, and privacy vary considerably from village to village and even lot to lot, so any general impression is best verified on site.
Who it suits
The Ridges tends to appeal to buyers prioritizing new or recent construction, architectural ambition, panoramic views, and proximity to Red Rock Canyon recreation and trailheads. It is widely regarded as one of the valley's most expensive residential submarkets, which in practice means it self-selects for high-net-worth and relocating buyers — many arriving from higher-cost coastal markets — rather than first-move-up purchasers. It may suit you less well if you want walkable urban amenities at your doorstep, since the setting is decidedly residential and car-oriented.
The golf site at its center
The former Bear's Best Las Vegas — a Jack Nicklaus "tribute" course that opened in 2001 and closed in 2025 — sits within The Ridges and has been reported to be undergoing redevelopment as a private golf and social club, referenced in coverage under the name Amara. We note it here only as a matter of local interest, and details appear to remain subject to change. To be clear: amara.vegas is independent editorial and is not affiliated with, authorized by, or endorsed by that project, its developer, or any related entity.
